The first Biophilic Architecture in Italy

Japanese star architects KengoKuma & Association have been selected in the 2020 competition for the large-scale redevelopment of 52,000 square meters on the site of the historic RCS Group headquarters in Milan.(hereinafter referred to as KKAA) This is his first large-scale construction in Italy. The representative of the design team is Yuki Ikeguchi of the KKAA Paris office. It uses a lot of wood, and the rectangular flat roof is layered radially, and when you look up at the flat roof with many intersecting wooden beams and many trees, it looks like a castle tower with a rooftop garden.

“Rather than using an air conditioner, we simulated the location, the type of wood, the size and angle of the eaves, and gave the building natural windows, maximizing the use of natural air circulation. “The same method as the wooden architecture of Horyuji Temple,” he explained, emphasizing the relationship SATOYAMA with the adjacent 770,000-sm Lambro Park. We will open it to the public,” he said.

Mr. A. Napoleone, the owner of European Resources, said, “We highly valued the KKAA’s proposal for adopting organic architecture.” It is a biophilic that aims to coexist with nature in a ‘new architectural language‘. “Mr. S. Mancuso, a botanist, is also deeply involved in making this a reality.
